What's wrong with my jaw? What kind of doctor should I see?

For a month or so, I've been obtaining off and on problems with my jaw. It can be usually uncomfortable, and/or stiff/sore. When I clench my teeth, my jaw joint will pop often. Also when move it about in a circular or sporadic movement, my jaw will crackle and pop sometimes. Same with opening my mouth very wide. I've heard it both methods so several times. Some say "cold for swelling, warm for pain." Some say "cold for 24/48 hours, then warm." My dentist told me to ice it for 24 hours and then use a warm compress in the days following, but I have to admit I'm skeptical and I certainly don't want it to get any worse! I already feel like my face could explode any moment. Assistance and reason? Thanks.

im nearly 8months pregnant and ive got a tooth abcsess but im not in a dentist i cant get in a single anywhere as they r all private! any person know how i can get rid of this with out goin to a dentist..will the chemist sell anythin for it?
